Vaping
Vapes (also known as e-cigarettes) are battery-operated devices that heat a liquid until it becomes a mist. When sucking on the vape, the mist is breathed in. The use of a vape is unsafe for teenagers and young adults as most e-cigarettes contain nicotine. Nicotine is highly addictive and we do not currently know the long term risks of vaping.
Even though nicotine vaping is substantially less harmful than smoking, it is not risk free. That’s why there’s a minimum age of sale for vaping products in the UK. It is illegal to sell nicotine vaping products to anyone under 18 or for adults to buy them on behalf of under-18s.
Common side effects children and young people may experience due to vaping include:
- Coughing
- Dry/sore mouth and throat
- Shortness of breath
- Headaches
- Nausea
- Dizziness
- Heart palpitations
