Snus & Nicotine Pouches
Snus is a type of smokeless tobacco product from Sweden. It is made from tobacco, nicotine, water, flavourings, sweeteners, and plant-based fibres.
In the UK, it is illegal to buy or sell snus. But if you are over 18, it is not illegal to use snus.
Nicotine pouches look like snus and are used the same way. They are made from similar ingredients to snus, apart from they don't have tobacco in them. Nicotine is added to make you want to use them again and again.
In the UK, it is legal to buy and sell nicotine pouches, and they are easy to find in shops.
Health risks
- Both snus and nicotine pouches can cause health problems.
- They are held in your mouth, between your gum and cheek, for a long time. This can cause dental problems and even oral cancer.
- They are addictive because they have nicotine.
- We do not know all the long-term health effects yet.
- Some young people have felt sick, dizzy, vomited, or had bleeding gums after using nicotine pouches. This is sometimes called being "nic sick".
