Black History Month October 2026
Black History Month is celebrated throughout October each year and is a vital time to celebrate the achievements, contributions and experiences of black people; both past and present. This year's theme is 'Honouring Our Communities'.
It is an opportunity to learn about people who have made a difference in areas such as sport, music, art, science, education, art, culture and social change – as well as discovering stories you have not heard before.
Why does it matter?
Black history is an important part of everyone’s history. Learning about different experiences and perspectives can help us to understand the world around us, challenge stereotypes and celebrate the diversity of our communities.
